What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind.

We all go into hypnosis quite naturally without realising it. Have you ever been driving somewhere and then on reaching your destination, wondered how you got there? Your conscious mind is thinking of other things and your subconscious is behind the steering wheel!

Hypnosis is quite simply a state of pure focus and when we are in hypnosis our subconscious is primed for change.

Why is it effective?

Hypnotherapy is effective because it works with your subconscious mind, which is the seat of all your emotions and the part of your mind. It controls approximately 90% of your behaviour. Your subconscious will always try and protect you and do what is best for you.  It has learnt behaviours and beliefs from experience, often in childhood and then continues to use them throughout your life a bit like a computer running a programme.

However, sometimes the subconscious mind can make a mistake, creating a connection, thought or emotion between an event and a behaviour that may have been appropriate at that time, but isn’t appropriate or helpful anymore. Through hypnotherapy we can work together to change these negative thought patterns (which can often creep in over time), beliefs and behaviours to promote healing and positive change.

What does Hypnotherapy feel like?

The hypnotic state is said to be similar to the warm, calm, secure feeling that you often have as you drift off to sleep or as you slowly wake in the morning. Most people find it a deeply relaxing experience; healing for the mind, body and spirit.  Everyone will have their own individual experience.

3

Is Hypnotherapy Safe?

A lot of people ask me; is Hypnotherapy Safe? When you are in hypnosis you have full control of your thoughts and actions. You cannot be made to do anything against your will or belief system. Hypnotherapy is a safe way to help you make the changes in your life that you want to make with your approval.

Hypnotherapy is very different from stage hypnosis.  People volunteer for stage hypnosis and if they end up clucking like a chicken or barking like a dog, it is because they are willing to be uninhibited on stage for the audience.

4

Are there any side effects to hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe complimentary therapy. You will benefit significantly from beginning to allow your mind and body to relax and let go of stress.  You may aware of subtle, but powerful differences, in the way you think, feel and behave after the session.

5

Will I know what’s going on while undergoing hypnotherapy?

Your mind may wander as you drift into a deeply relaxing state, but you will always know what is going on and you will always be in control. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis. You can bring yourself out of hypnosis whenever you want. However, in most cases you are so deeply relaxed, you won’t want to! Similarly, you will not divulge any embarrassing personal details or ‘secrets’.

Hypnosis only continues with your co-operation. You are in complete control over what you say or do.

6

How many Hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

This is, unfortunately, like asking ‘how long is a piece of string?’ Everyone is different, and everyone’s individual needs and circumstances vary.  There is no definitive answer.

The average length of time is around four – six sessions. However, some issues can be resolved in one or two.

7

Is success guaranteed?

As with any medical or therapeutic process there can be no definite guarantees. No surgeon will or can guarantee their work and results. This is no different for my hypnotherapy programmes. Hypnotherapy programmes are reliant on ‘you’ the client. You will be required to be 100% committed & motivated. In return I guarantee I will do my best to help you.
